2nd January 2019, Around Co Cork

In the exact same flower border outside the fire station in Kinsale where I found some Slender Clubs a year or so ago, now some Collared Earthstars. This is a good spot for mushrooms! A bit of a surprise – they must be old ones left over from the autumn. Another lesson in keeping your wits about you.


1. Collared Earthstar (Geastrum triplex).
Growing in leaf litter under deciduous trees in roadside verge. Group of three. Full body around 7cm across. No smell. Old specimens.
